My Promise
My promise to you is that I will always commit to using what I believe to be the most sustainable and natural products accessible to me.
There are a lot of options with candle wax and I have done my best to research my options. This is so I can stay true to what I believe is important, using sustainable, ethical and natural ingredients to create something beautiful for you to enjoy.
This being said I have spent months researching for my choice of wax for these candles and have landed on the decision to use certified sustainable Palm wax.
Why am I choosing this wax?
Aside from that fact that this palm wax is perfectly smooth white wax which has an excellent hot and cold scent throw. It is also a conscious choice for the environment.
Ever increasing global demand for edible oils in the past few decades has seen rapid expansion in the production of two major edible oils, soy oil in South America and palm oil throughout the tropics and stretching into the sub-tropics.
The demand for Palm oil along with irresponsible production has created an expansion of palm oil plantations which has negatively impacted the environment. It has had a devastating impact on rainforests and threatened many vulnerable species, communities and indigenous peoples.
Responsible palm oil should be produced without causing deforestation, the conversion of natural ecosystems, environmental degradation, or the harming of wildlife. It should also be produced in a manner which treats workers fairly, respects the rights of local communities and indigenous people, and incentivises and empowers producers including smallholder farmers with the means to adopt more responsible production practices as a part of sustainable livelihoods.
The wax I am using
My wholesaler's manufacturer has been in the oleo chemical industry for over 15 years and is an active member of the Roundtable Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO). This organisation is committed to responsible and sustainable use of natural resources. All raw materials are procured from sustainable plantations.
Natural Palm Candle Wax is 100% Natural Palm Oil. The palm tree produces fruits in bunches which are harvested and sent to palm oil mills to undergo sterilization, bunch stripping, oil extraction, oil clarification and purification.
In conclusion
After extensively looking into this topic I believe, in this moment that certified sustainable palm wax is the most sustainable, ethical and natural wax available to me. I am still looking, however yet to find any soy wax that a wholesaler can certify any of these values to me.
That being said things are always changing and new information is always becoming available so I will do my best to stay up to date.
